Great trans-Atlantic flight on C-5 jumbo cargo aircraft out of McGuire AFB NJ toRamstein AB Germany. Lots of new construction at Ramstein AB since I was last here 12 years ago. Beautiful state-of-the-art huge passenger terminal, 10-story still-to-be-completed Base Exchancge complex. Somewhat tired. Got to stretch out during flight. Used our new sleeping bags, at least I did. Emily and I went up and talked to crew in the cokpit for awhile. They knew people I knew etc etc. C-5 was out of Memphis TN ANG unit that used to have C-141s. Crew very nice to me. Treated me as an official DV since I'm an O-5, which is a new thing. Anyway, our Dutch friends can no longer get onto the base here at Ramstein AB, so Emily and I need to hike to the West Gate for a 20-minute trek, no problemo. Cannot fly Air Force flights into East Bloc countries, because they normally are only flights for active duty folks on orders. Next flight to Aviano AB IT (which would at least get us a lot closer to Croatia, Slovenia, etc) isn't until next week. Soooo we will have some deciding to do as to what to do next. Nothing some good friendship and German beer cannot help along though. Gotta start schlepping. Tschuess for now. - Wendy (3:00PM Germany time, 9:00AM East Coast time, 6:00AM AZ time)
